1. Understanding the anatomy of dragon wings

First of all, let’s start by quickly understanding the anatomy of dragon wings. Although dragons are creatures of pure imagination, there are principles of anatomy that can help us portray them convincingly. Dragon wings are usually similar in structure to bat or bird wings, but with their own fantastical twist.

They consist of an arm, wrist, fingers, and interconnected membranes. The length of the wingspan varies depending on the depiction, with some dragons sporting large, outstretched wings, while others prefer smaller, compact wings to facilitate aerial maneuvers.

2. Dragon wings step by step

a) Start by drawing a kind of diamond like below.

b) Make points at specific locations on the diamond, locations shown in the image.

c) Connect these points to the top left corner of the diamond. The connection of the points should be done in a curve for more realism.

d) Connect these points together, always in a curve, making a point on the top right corner of the diamond. A kind of opening must also be made at the bottom left, using the image as a guide.

e) Add a “horn” to the top left corner of the diamond.

f) Go over all the lines carefully, accentuate the curves to give a perspective effect.

You are all set! Your Dragon wings are more radiant than ever. You also have the option of erasing some pencil lines to go over the most important ones with a felt-tip pen. After that, you color the wings, alternating the colors between the winged part and the bony part. Finally, don't hesitate to add a shadow effect to enhance the whole thing!
